Wii're Not So Sure

The Nintendo Revolution now has a new name: Wii. That's pronounced 'we'. As you can see in the logo, the two i's could represent the one-handed controllers. Or, they could just look cool. Who knows.

The name is, well, alright. It's not fantastic by any means, but it's not absolutely horrible. As one of the comments I read stated: "I'm going to go play with my wii" just sounds really wrong. Some people say they f-ing hate it, others say they like it.

Nintendo says that the name means that the console is for everyone. It's supposed to break the barrier between gamers and people.

Wii will change everything. Read more.

The Google Cheat Sheet

I just found this really cool "cheat sheet" as they call it. It tells you everything you could ever want to know about Google. Here's some of the things included:

  • A complete list of all Google domains
  • A complete list of all Google services
  • Miscellaneous Google information (Revenue, number of employees, etc.)
  • The query structure for Google movie and music search
  • Google Calculator operators
  • Advanced search operators
  • Complete list of official Google blogs

It's pretty sweet. You can view and download it here .

Google Innovations

Google is churning out the goods. Maybe I've just been out of it, but they seem to have a ton of brand new awesome stuff. Google Calendar, Google Page Creator, Nifty Firefox Extensions, you name it. And of course, Gmail is always being updated. Here's some quick synopses:
  • Google Calendar - A scheduling calendar. I read about it on a blog where the guy said he was going to stop using iCal for Google's alternative. And, since it's on the web, it's accessible anywhere.
  • Google Page Creator - An extremely user-friendly personal website creator. I whipped up my home page in about five minutes. It handles everything behind the scenes. Choose your page "look," choose the layout, and you're good to go. You just enter text and use the controls like you would in a word processor.
  • Nifty Firefox Extensions - Now, in addition to their Google Toolbar, Google is releasing extensions for Firefox. I only downloaded the blogging one, but the others look good too.
  • Google Base - A quick easy way to share a family recipe, tell the world how you feel about chimpanzees, or whatever you want.
It's pretty cool stuff. Who wouldn't want to work at Google?

NOTE: To see a lot of this new, elegant stuff when it first comes out, check out Google Labs and The Google Blog regularly.

Windows and Mac: The Convergence

Well, it's officially started: Apple will dominate the world one day. With the release of Apple Bootcamp, you can run Mac OS X and Windows XP on your Mac. It just asks you which operating system you would like to run every time you start up your computer.

This will completely eliminate any compatibility problems between PCs and Macs. If you receive a file you can't read, just boot up Windows. This will also convince everyone that hasn't bought a Mac yet because they can't run their old programs.

The only criticism I have is this: OS X has become part of the signature Apple "look," and running Windows on an iMac would just look so wrong. Even so, the Mac Mini is lookin' pretty good...

A very smart move by Apple.

Nplay? April fools!

Nintendo Revolution Now Called "Nintendo nplay" was what my eyes saw, and my mind jumped. Had Nintendo already chosen a name, so soon after announcing that "Revolution" was a codename? Alas, it was not to be. As soon as the link to the press announcement didn't work, I was a little suspicious. I did a little searching, and I am now 99% sure it was a fake. I had kind of hoped it was; "nplay" just doesn't grab me. You can look check out the original hoax, and the de-mystifier.

Don't believe anything you read on the internet. Here's another example of extreme hoaxery. I received an email shortly after the tsunami stating that almost every animal you see on that page was new and undiscovered until they were washed up by the tsunami. That webpage was last modified in 2003. The tsunami was not in 2003.

Whatever you do, don't create these stupid fakes that get everyone excited for awhile, then they realize what you did hate you until the end of your days. You don't want to be like that, do you?
